"American Headway came out of our experience both as teachers and teacher trainers. On teacher training courses we would have regular sessions examining course books. We would draw up a list of what would be in our ideal course – things that didn't exist at the time, things that teachers had to supplement themselves.
American Headway has a methodology that transcends time, fashions and fads. It combines the best of traditional approaches (solid grammar, development of vocabulary, rote learning) and more recent approaches (all the exciting things like communicative activities, jigsaws, information gap, role-plays, mazes).
We are aware of trends such as acquisition-based humanism, task-based learning, and the lexical approach. Headway has always had elements of these (even before the terms were coined), but we do not embrace them exclusively. We keep our eyes, ears and minds open to new ideas but always keep our feet on the ground. We incorporate what we believe works."
